Who We Are at St. JohnsFirst and foremost, the community family of St. John's will recognize and celebrate the Glory of God in each person. We recognize and celebrate difference of race, nationality, gender, and sexual orientation in each brother and sister, knowing that we are all of One Family, of God our Creator. In our worship as a church, as part of the Body of Christ, we will give praise and thanks to God and seek God's forgiveness and strength. We will heed the call to be Christ's apostles in bringing the Good News of Christ to all people. We look forward to growth in St. John's congregation, not only for the beauty and meaning of our liturgical services but also because the Love of Christ shines through us as we reach out to include new members. We will nurture the loving family atmosphere that is a hallmark of St. John's. We will promote spiritual growth in our children and ourselves through meditation and prayer, individual and organized group study of the Scriptures, participation in Church traditions, and openness to the Word of God as it may be revealed to us. We will remember that the Church of God is not a building, but a group of people. The Church is each of us loving and supporting each other as members of the family of St. John's, in our daily walk through this life. It is each of us, of all ages, working as a family to serve people in need - physical, emotional, or spiritual. We will search our ways to meet those needs with food, clothing, advice, care, and the Love of Christ. We will serve the Huntingdon community, with neighboring churches where possible. Through our Diocese of Central Pennsylvania we will reach out to the world. To such service, we commit talents, energy, resources, and grace as God has given them to us. We will be good steward of God's many gifts to each of us individually ad to St. John's as a church, using them in God's service. We will maintain and develop the physical resources of St. John's to meet current program needs and anticipate those of future generations. We will assure attractive and safe facilities for worship, Christian education, social interaction of our church family, community outreach, child care, teen activities, and church staff. We will meet the special requirements of the handicapped. We will provide facilities dedicated to meditation, appreciation of God's world, and respect for church members who have gone on to God. Our Creator has given us free will to choose how we will live and act. Through Christ we know God's forgiveness and love for us, just as we are. Christ calls us to emulate His loving nature by loving and serving others.
